So sad we learn so slowly.  The checkered history of the modern world is studded with socialist fascism and all end the same way.  Someone ultimately has to pay the bill, and socialist excesses end up breaking the backs of those that create the wealth its leaders distribute, leaving them short - always leaving them short; there is never enough.  And when that happens those who welcomed socialism quickly become disenchanted with it, and the more disenchanted they become the more fascist the measures necessary to maintain order.

Limitation of resources is just not understood, or accepted, by those who have less than others, regardless of the reason; they want what others have, and the socialists promise it to them.   Hugo Chavez made the same old promises, and the results have been quite predictable: an appearance or more for the poor, with reality of less and less overall.  So last night he had to make sure he has the power to deal with the inevitable disenchantment, tightening his control of the government by eliminating term limits - the next step toward fascism.   He is following in the footsteps of Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Castro and Mugabe, to name the best known, though there are others, and Chavez is being followed by others in Latin America; likely now they will take the same road.  So sad.

But once the promises have been made, and the gullible gulled, there seems to be no turning back the tide; they have to learn the hard way, and they will.  So sad.
