What is an ideal politician?
That is, what is it we want of our politicians? Look at the results:
Ability to talk pretty, and confidently – always confidently,
Ability to sound positive but say nothing,
Ability to make us feel good,
A waffler who says one thing but doesn’t hold to it if it’s not expedient to do so, and is able to get away with it,
Someone who looks “presidential” – that is, like a TV politician would look,
One who promises us what we want to hear (and what we want to get),
Someone youthful and energetic, with an attractive young family,
Someone who can never be nailed down to accept blame – for anything,
Someone who doesn’t get too technical on us, and confuse us with the facts,
Someone who never, never makes us do anything we don’t want to do’
Someone who foreign leaders think is wonderful (because he doesn’t challenge them),
A solid generationalist – someone who sounds cool to young people,
A person whom the entertainment industry adores,
A charismatic person (meaning that he/she sounds and acts like a movie actor),
A person who makes us feel good,
A person who makes us feel good,
And a person who makes us feel good.
So why don’t we hire a scripted movie actor? Essentially we do.
But, who runs things? Who cares? We feel good.
So who is at fault when this kind of person is elected and things go bad?
Don’t look now. We want someone who acts as we do, but makes us feel good.
