In a recent article Thomas Sowell talked about books that have made a special impact on his thinking.  But, he allowed, experience has impacted more people than books.  I am both appalled by how few people today bother to read books to learn and at how slowly many learn from experience.  I guess it takes a little real pain for the experience to move aside entertainment and set in.

Fasten seat belts.  We are about to endure the experience of our lives, and it will be painful.  Just remember, we asked for it - we voted for it.  Now we shall live with it.
