Greed in Motion - and Change!

4 May 2009

One thing one can always count on is that man will (1) pursue his own self interests, and (2) overdo it in the process.  Where ever they originated the Ten Commandments can always be relied on t bring it home - or to attempt to, with greed and envy right there at the top of the pile.

People who couldn't afford the payments wanted the houses (and that hasn't changed), politicans wanted them to have them (for the votes they expected to reap), bankers (with government pressure and therefore backing) gave them (houses) to them (for almost nothing) and sold them (mortgages) to investors for profit, countries and international investors everywhere jumped on that bandwagon (for their own profit), and every one jumped on the credit bandwagon (why should I live poor when I can live rich?).  Surprise surprise.

In the meantime TV (I know, there I go again) and Hollywood sold the fantasy.  We even elected an American Idol president; but all the rest (countries) are doing the same: I loooooooooooove him.  Anyway we like to live in fantasy-land, where everyone is rich and all the children are above average.  Wheeeeeeeeee.  But it never lasts.  So sad.  And then we have to pay the bills, and reap the consequences.  And whine.

It could not go on forever, especially when we were pushing people into power who had no idea of how to handle it (or even experience in doing it).  Or to make it all come out roses, as promised - change!  Too bad.  So sad.  And now we await the next wave, right?  Hmmmmmm, maybe; but maybe not.  Maybe it all depends on what follows, and it doesn't look good because all indications are that we are diving right back in for more of the same.

Who pays the bills?  Who makes the decisions and on what basis?  Where do the jobs comes from?  And who do we punish?  More than likely, in typical human fashion, we will punish the very ones who can bring us back to some level of normality.  Yeah, stick it to 'em.

We have devolved into a confusing world.  Will we recover?  Oh, sure, despite what the talking heads say.  But it won't be quite the same; everything has changed.  That's what we wanted, right?  Uh huh.  Change, change, change; but we really had no idea what kind of change.  Although some did, and they are bringing it to us - very rapidly, apparently with very little understanding what it will entail (despite the vast amount of information available to tell them).

I suspect that we will not like the change that comes.  But then who am I to say so?  You asked for it and you will have to suffer wth it.  The majority has spoken in its usually babbling, irresponsible, self serving miopic ignorance.
