I concluded some time ago that part of our emerging culture is the tendency of so many, due to the surfeit of entertainment (and their proclivity to embrace it hook, line and sinker) to opt to live in a la la land of fantasy. It's what's happening, dude. Two of my favorite examples are reality shows and American Idol, and there is irony - reality shows as fantasy; we even see reality as fantasy. Or is it fantasy as reality? See? It's all the same.
Then we elected a fantasy president - through the same means. When wallowing in fantasy there is no reality. It really does all become the same. Hey, he's so cool man; he sends chills up and down my leg.
But then came the clincher: our American Idol fantasy president lives in a fantasy world too. Make nice and be happy, man; if it's unpleasant just wish it away. You need money? Hey, man, we'll print it -'just want everybody to be happy; spread the wealth (that we are creating out of nothing). It's all going to come out fine - like superman and mighty mouse. Hmmmm, there is a good analogy: mighty mouse, tearing up all the fat cats so we can all live happily forever after on all that spread wealth.
The new talk radio (we're doing away with the old - it's too yesterday reality): the president speaks, and speaks, and speaks. And we all feel good about ourselves and the world. All's right with the world with Obama in charge. Can't you feel the good vibes sinking in? Surely that's happening throughout the world; isn't it?
